Kings Cafe to close after 117 years

Recommended Posts

What a shame. Another iconic business disappearing. I've got many happy memories of dining in the cafe in the 60s when I worked as a typist in an office on Bath Street and as a barmaid in The State in Holland Street.

The new owners are planning to serve up some Steak, Cattle and Roll at the Kings Cafe'.

yes you can now sit in Starbucks and check your potential reading list on kindle...........dear Gawd

Not the same as a good browse. I'm buying most of my books these days in charity shops.

Yes, it is changing, Lynnski. Online shopping shouldn't effect the cafes – at least I don't think so. Kings Cafe always seemed busy and Dino's did great custom. The latter was due to retiral. Crockett's was usually pretty empty. A fascinating shop. It'll be missed. One city centre is much the same as another these days.
