Jan Stepek RIP

Recommended Posts

Jan Stepek, aged 90 , died last week. He is described in his obituary in The Herald as "one of the most remarkable examples of an immigrant's ability to survive and prosper in a foreign land, in his case Scotland.'

Last year I heard something of Jan's story, when I heard his son Martin Stepek recite poetry at the Sikorski Polish Club in the West End. Martin also spoke of his family's remarkable trek from Sibera to Persia after they were exiled during the invasion of Poland in 1939,

The details can be read in The Herald's Obituary and in Martin's tribute to his father.

Jan became a successful business man, a philanthropist, received honourary from both Glasgow and Strathclyde Universities and was Chairman of Hamilton Accies for thirty years.
