The 'Nice Word' Thread

Recommended Posts

Mellifluous

Yellowhammer

That's two nice words and what's more, they can be used together as in 'mellifluous yellowhammer'. I'm wasted on here (it's the Co-op brandy)

I currently have what must be one of the biggest aspidistras in the world  , it's eatin me out of house & home. It sits there, quivering....

I don't like 'rivulet'. It's too twee & *nglish a word... and too close to bullet and rivet

Thank you, yonza. I love these kind of threads.

My favourite word is hoodwink.

Then I have a yen for onomatopoeiac words like:

shuffle

crackle

chuckle

whisper

flutter

rustle

murmur

and of course vroom vroom ;)

I like words that describe laughter like:

chortle and guffaw

but definitely not snigger.

Hiccup is a word that brings a smile to my face.

IonaW, I've been noticing your late nights. Hope you get back to sleep with the wee one - maybe if you repeat 'flaxen' over and over you will nod off again. Anyway, your daughter is a lucky lassie and I am sure that gran is much appreciated.

I like obviously concocted words for nonsense, like

Fiddlesticks

Poppycock

Gibberish

Balderdash

Humbug

Twaddle

Baloney

Hogwash

Not exactly 'nice', but...

Mandibles

I can't say that word without giggling. I'm even laughing now, just typing it, without saying it out loud!

Mandibles
