Barrage balloons were large inflated balloons which were used to deter low level attack by Germans dive bombers (Stukas). They were secured by steel cables which would sheer the wings off a dive bomber.

I have no idea if they were effective.

I always thought barrage balloons were to keep UK from sinking under the weight of all the Americans & their equipment over there

Kelvinbridge2-1.jpg

This is the first picture I've seen on Kelvinbridge Station - finally I understand it! My mum lstayed in Caledonian Mansions when she was at uni and it was still the goods line, but I'd never had the entrance to the station explained to me, probably because the passenger line was closed well before her time there! Thanks for that HH. :o

Ha! "Glasgow Food and Produce" :?:

My eyes are dim, I cannot see, I have not brought my specs with me

Well, for what it's worth I reckon it's either Scottish something or Scotch something.

Whichever, have you tried looking at the image as a negative, HH. It looks really good!

Ever look at World Wide Westenders

Down the right hand side of Pat's front page?

That's me, in France, love the West End, born and bred.

Emmerdale....whit's that

Is that part of the west end or is that down Partick way?

If you look at my other post this merry eve you will see that I am just ready for a fight! OK!

PS It took you a long time to read it......how is the camera going ( or not as the case may be)?
