  1. It's very sad that someone so young should die...What an extraordinary life he led. So complex and so talented. A very colourful figure to say the least!....I wonder if anyone really truly understood him...I'm sure the pressure of his forthcoming "come back" tours didn't help.
  2. If your enjoy excellent Italian food, here's somewhere else well worth a visit. Ristorante La Fiorentina. Ristorante La Fiorentina
  3. It was wonderful Oz! - I used to go there when I was at school. We stopped there for high tea on the way back from Murryfield....A great place.
  4. No KG - I've never been there! - Yet!
  5. Hahahahahahahaha...nip nip nip! Anyhoo, I'd like to nominate the Rogano as certainly one of the best in Glasgow....An institution!.....Excellent place! A bar lunch or dinner - Wonderful!
  6. It's a nice place and the rooms had just been totally renovated...Parking was a nightmare though! ...There were actually three of us...We were on a "swap" with folk from Greenock doing their shifts....Local knowledge and all that .....They also provide excellent sandwiches in the bar of an evening too, free gratis....At least they did then!
  7. ....Nota, about four years ago I stayed at the Spinnaker...Lovely place and a very very good breakfast too! D'you know, I have never ever been to Millport! .....When we're back in Scotland, I'll take Mrs Rhumpole there....I've just been googling it....It looks a super area.
  8. Last time I was in Rothesay (Many moons ago! )...I went to the Electric Bakery and had a pie and chips.....Excellent!
  9. Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson go on a camping trip. After a good dinner and a bottle of wine, they retire for the night, and go to sleep. Some hours later, Holmes wakes up and nudges his faithful friend. “Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see.” “I see millions and millions of stars, Holmes” replies Watson. “And what do you deduce from that?” Watson ponders for a minute. “Well, Astronomically, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, I observe that Saturn is in Leo. Horologically, I deduce that the time is approximately a quarter past three. Meteorologically, I suspect that we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. Theologically, I can see that God is all powerful, and that we are a small and insignificant part of the universe. But what does it tell you, Holmes?” Holmes is silent for a moment. “Watson, you idiot!” he says. “Someone has stolen our tent!”
  10. Excellent Nota! I had a really good lunch there - yes, I recommend it!
  11. Nota - I think there is still the Moorings restaurant beside the ferry terminal though....At least, I think it's called that....Bloomin' good it is too!
  12. Hi there Rolo (Waving smiley lol)...Danny Browns was just on the south west corner of George Square, which I thought was still Cochrane Street as it became St.Vincent Street...Though I haven't done a "live maps" thingy on it either! lol.
  13. Yes, it does Oz...Though I think the south side of the square is Cochrane Steet, joining with St Vincent Street, so we may well be talking about the same spot! - Mrs Rhumpole and I were in Glasgow about a year ago and I looked for Danny Brown's in the location I thought it was in, but it wasn't there ...If it's gone it's a great pity.
  14. Gosh! - I don't know Oz....It may well have moved there...It was certainly where I said it was when I was a boy...We used to go there for high tea on the way back from Murrayfield before getting the train to go back to school. It was a great place!...
  15. When I was ummmm about 9 or so, my Gran would take me (BIG treat! lol) on the train from Bearsden into town..We always went to the restaurant in MacDonalds for lunch. I ALWAYS had fish n' chips..There was a lovely waitress there who knew Gran well...."Aaaaah helloooo Mrs Brown..I'll get you a nice table" Hahahaha..When I think back to it, Gran always had her hat on and (VERY passe) fox fur round her neck!..This thread has taken me back what seems ...Well it is...AGES! lol. Does anyone remember Danny Browns on George square on the other side opposite Queens St station? ....They used to do a great high tea there.
