The New Year leads to a fresh start for the New Children's Programme focusing on Healthy Eating and Physical Activity from an Early Age
Following the major success of the new Children's Programme Taster sessions on the 27 & 29 November 2006, the Sport and Recreation Service, in partnership with Jam Kids, are to start their inaugural blocks of their new Children's classes on Wednesday 10 January 2007.
The new programme specialises in providing children with positive and enjoyable physical activity and exercise. Classes are designed to, not only, benefit child physical and mental well-being now, but also to help educate and lay more solid foundations for healthier eating regimes and stimulate the want to be active in the future.

The aim is to attract and educate children from an early age about the benefits and positive associations with eating healthy and participating physical activity. The classes are designed to suit different ages starting from 1.5 years and progressing to 8 years. Additional classes will be incorporated into the programme as it develops and we are already looking at classes for the 9 years and above.
Julie Ommer, Director of the Sport and Recreation Service, said,
?In the current climate with so much attention being focused on obesity levels and the diets of school children, the SRS decided it would be the perfect opportunity to provide a Children's Programme that encapsulates healthy eating and participating in physical activity from an early age. The classes help to educate children in a fun activity filled environment and highlight the links between healthy eating and being active. It's all about helping to foster a more active and healthier lifestyle for children.?
