On the back of rave US reviews and a successful English tour last year, Americana singer/songwriter Annie Keating is hitting Scotland for the first time to play the Glasgow Americana Festival and check out how things get done north of the border!

Variously compared to Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch, Willie Nelson and John Prine by critics like the Village Voice and Maverick Annie Keating still rings out an intimate and emotional style all her own.

Maidstone, Kent, UK (Coffee Artists) March 10, 2009, Coffee Artists are pleased to present Americana singer/songwriter Annie Keating touring for the first time in Scotland off the back of an invite from the Glasgow Americana Festival.

Annie's one of those sudden unexpected blips on the industry radar, spending her youth as an activist travelling the US fighting for civil liberties, environmental justice and reproductive rights long before she found her way to songwriting and performing. And this is just as well, with her music sounding like a fine wine matured and textured by life's experience.

Last year saw the release of her third album Belmont which has delivered her promise by the bucket load; debuting at number 6 in the Euro Americana Radio Chart and a CD Baby best seller for months.

The keen ears of BBC Radio 2's Bob Harris were quick as ever to respond to exciting undiscovered sounds and an invite to lay down a live session brought her to the UK for an official album launch around London's famous small venue scene. This time around the invite came from the Glasgow festival and further dates are also planned at Carnegie Hall in Fife and Mad Hatters in Inverness.

It was a privilege to be invited to support Annie Keating at Brel as part of Glasgow Festival of Americana.

Annie came on stage around nine o'clock and everyone sat back and enjoyed over an hour of relaxed folk/country music.

It made a change to see some real American culture on the cobblestone's of Ashton Lane and in the breaks between songs Annie talked about life, love and childhood in Brooklyn, NYC.

The double bass sounded great along with Annie's 'Neil Young' style guitar playing and vocals that were full of emotion and edge.

Next time we have Annie back in Scotland it would be a show well worth checking out.

I'd certainly be up for playing with her again. I loved the whole experience and the positive comments about my performance were a bonus plus I sold loads of CDs.

Either way, when she returns I'll definitely be there to see her and given half a chance will be whizzing over to New York.
