Scottish Writers' Centre begins 2012 with a series of In Process presentations, where well-known literary figures will share an exploration of their creative process with an emphasis on aspects of crafting, using readings and other media of their choice to illustrate how and what works for them. Our first presentation will be given by Ron Butlin.

With an international reputation as a prize-winning novelist, Ron Butlin is one of Scotland's most acclaimed writers. He was chosen by the British Council to be Scotland's writer-representative at the first-ever New Writing Worlds Symposium at the University of East Anglia (June 2005).

Ron was Poet-in-Residence at the National Galleries of Scotland (2004), Writer-in-Residence at the universities of Edinburgh, Stirling, St Andrews, New Brunswick and has worked extensively giving workshops to all ages, from primaries to pensioners. He is the Edinburgh Poet Laureate (Makar) and was recently made an Honorary Writing Fellow by Edinburgh University. He is also an experienced opera librettist, most recently creating operas for Scottish Opera, with the composer Lyell Cresswell.
