The photograph shows Lynne at work organising Paintings on Railings on a sunny Sunday this Springtime and includes her friend and fellow artist Alan Bowie.
Lynne explains the ideology behind "Paintings on Railings" as being simply providing " accessible and affordable art for the public" and "for artists of all levels to exhibit and sell their work". It includes, professionals, semi professionals, students, weekend artists, dabblers - you name it!
It is a fantastic event and a lovely way to spend some time: the artists get a chance to show what they can do and customers can have a good look around, soak up the atmosphere and even buy some original art. Meeting the artist is of course a pleasant bonus. Some very well known artists hung their paintings from the same railings during the 50's and early 60's - many of whom have gone on to bigger and better things. You never know - you could be investing in a masterpiece.
Jim Simpson and his son Jamie, who has just graduated from Glasgow School of Art, have formed a fine team. They are keen contributors to Paintings on Railings and their work which depicts West End scenes is much in demand.
Other regular contributors include: Martin Oates, Ron Lindsay, Damian Henry, Harry Cook, Frank Houston, Agnes Phillips, Ornella Bindi, Chris Bibby and Eleanor McGowan and of course Lynne Scobbie.
The outdoor gallery has become so popular that Paintings on Railings is held not only during the West End Festival but on the last weekend of the month from March through to October. It is a lovely way to spend some time and the situation beside the Botanics Main Gate on Queen Margaret Drive is perfect with the fabulous Kibble Palace in the background.
A second venue can be found in the City Centre:Paintings on Railings Goes to Town is now in its second season. This takes place at the railings around The Gallery of Modern Art - one Saturday during July, August, September, 0ctober and Christmas.
