Exhibition of Women Artists in Glasgow since World War !!

Glasgow School of Art - Mackintosh Museum

7 July - 30 September 2012

Studio 58: Women Artists in Glasgow since World War II is an exhibition and accompanying publication examining the period between World War II and the present day when women artists in Glasgow have been at the forefront of the art scene in the city. The title of the exhibition comes from the studio located on the top floor of the Mackintosh Building which historically was the dedicated work space for women students.

In recent years, a number of highly regarded women artists have emerged from the Glasgow art scene, including Turner Prize nominees Christine Borland, Cathy Wilkes and Karla Black. Studio 58 will contextualise the work of contemporary women artists in Glasgow through documenting and displaying the little known and under-represented lineage of women's art in the city from 1939 onwards, within the frame of the city's art school where all of the artists included in the exhibition either studied or taught.

The exhibition, part of the collection of Anthony d'Offray touring as Artist Rooms, will be on display in Tramway 2, one of the largest exhibition spaces in Europe.
Programme
Alan Bryden: Sound

Art Studio

Ages 7-12 plus parents / carers

We'll use found sound and everyday noise to create unique sonic sculptures that explore and unravel the work of Jannis Kounellis and the Arte Povera movement. If you'd like to like to try out new ways of making a lot of noise in a really creative way, this is the workshop for you!

There will be the opportunity to view Kounellis' exhibition before the workshop and display and share your final creation at the end.
Jer Reid and Monica de Ioanni: MuSical SculPtures

Tramway 4

A playful dance workshop combining different media and with live improvised music. With Monica (dance and arts educator) and Jer (music improviser). We'll start with a guided walk through the Kounellis exhibition with some musical sounds. Afterwards, using music, movement and images, we will inspire the children to create their own sculpture and dance. We will explore the sculptures as elements in space to play with and respond to.
Carla Fullerton: Drop-in Visual Arts Workshop

Cafe Bar opposite T4
1pm - 4pm

The workshop will use a number of the materials and processes used by Jannis Kounellis. Materials will range from found objects to natural forms.
