Alasdair Gray mural in Hillhead Station

Recommended Posts

We're finally getting closer to the big reveal, Saturday 1st September. Looking forward to seeing it! Although the unicorns on the posters are somewhat terrifying...

For those of you who haven't been on the subway for a while, there have been teaser posters, which you can see here:

You wouldn't recognise it now Tig, looks totally different! The words are only there temporarily, the actual artwork gets revealed this weekend :)

Looking forward to seeing it. I love the ceiling in the Auditorium in OranMor. He's got a great style.

I am sure, earlier, that I saw the date, this Sat 1st September. I am 99% certain I saw that! But you're right Pat, it's not in the article. I wonder if I got it mixed up with something else...?

This sounds like a bit of a mystery or just rotten reporting.

Jim had a blether with Allan Richardson, the very talented artist and west end roadsweeper. Allan is a friend of Alasdair Gray's and had all the lowdown on the mural as he is one of the subjects along with 'puddocks, devils, owls and unicorns'. What's a puddock?

Apparently the date for the unveiling is 16th September.

I've never heard the word 'puddock' before either Pat, but it seems they are frogs.

Thanks, lynnski. Sounds a bit dark and scary.

On the poster it says 'back green puddocks', which sounds to me like they were a common feature round folk's back gardens sometime?

That's a lovely wee design, lynnski.

I seem to remember seeing quite a lot of frogs hopping about when I was a child but not so much in the back green as nearby in the Lusset Glen.

It's the final countdown, doobedoo doo, doobedoo doo doo doo...

Never mind the doobedoos. I hope you're working as though you live in the early days of a better world.

I'm working to get through things so that I can get out later.

The revelation is upon us! I'll be passing through with my shiny new camera later, so hopefully I'll get a shot or two of it before they try and arrest me for taking pictures on the underground!

I must remind Jim of the photo-op, lynnski. I'm looking forward to seeing the mural but heading further west today.

I missed the subway.

 Don't think you were the only one, CL.

I sneaked a peep tonight from behind the turnstiles. It's brilliant. Another great achievement by Alasdair. I like the culture vultures with their laptops. :)

Allan Richardson, also an artist, and very chatty road sweeper, is one of the subjects, harper. I think Alasdair is now heading down to work at Partick Station - or have I made that up?
