Very sad news that this well loved author has dementia, which has developed far enough now that it prevents him from working any more. I've yet to read any of his books, but they've all been on my list for some time now.

OMG, Lynski, you are in for such a treat. 100 Years of Solitude is till in my top 5 favourite books of all time.... magical realism all the way.
His autobiography is stunning, he has lead a wonderful life. So sad to hear of his decline into dementia.... :(

Very sad that such a wonderful writer has developed this dreadful condition. Maybe we should all choose one of his books to read and discuss? :)

Should we discuss it chapter by chapter, or just once we've all finished it?

100 days was the book lynnski suggested way back as she had started reading it, harper. I ordered it from the library but no sign as yet so I've now bought it on Amazon.

I think the question was how do we approach the group - discuss one chapter at a time or whole book?

Maybe we could follow up with Love in the time of Cholera and give Marquez intensive attention? We could compare the books.

I read pretty quickly so happy to read the whole book and discuss - once it's in my hands.

How long are we giving ourselves to read it?

FWIW, I think 100 Years of Solitude would lead itself quite well to a chapter by chaper check in...

Right then, chapter by chapter it is. Shall we start a new topic for the discussion or just keep this one going?

This'll be a first for me but if I can get the book in the library then I'll give it a go.
