Doctors voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action in the face of changes to their pensions. Proposals for change would mean that doctors would be forced to "contribute more to their pensions, work longer, and receive less in retirement on a career-average scheme instead of a final-salary one."

The BMA has announced that industrial action will take place on 21st June when its members will provide urgent and emergency care but will postpone non-urgent cases.

He's studying how to be sardonic but he's lost without his smileys.

Commenting on the decision by the BMA today [Saturday 25 February 2012] to ballot doctors on industrial action short of strike action, Dr Brian Keighley, Chairman of the BMA in Scotland, said:

“The decision to ballot doctors on industrial action is a reflection of the depth of anger that doctors feel about the planned changes to the NHS pension scheme.

“We appreciate that patients will be concerned that doctors are considering industrial action, but I hope they will understand why we have to take this step. Government cannot be given the impression that it is acceptable to impose change to public sector pension schemes without negotiation and agreement with trade unions. I would like to reassure patients that any form of industrial action would minimise any risk of harm to patients.

“We are not asking for doctors to be treated differently, but to be treated fairly. These changes affect all members of the NHS pension scheme, who have already seen their pensions reformed in recent years. Our pension scheme delivers a surplus to the Treasury to the tune of £2bn for year and is sustainable in the longer term. These reforms are unnecessary and unfair.

“The Government has pushed us to the point where we are considering taking industrial action for the first time in a generation. Today’s decision sends a strong signal to the ministers that they must re-open talks with the BMA and other trade unions, and in Scotland this is an opportunity for the Scottish Government to consider alternatives to these proposed reforms.”

That makes no sense whatsoever. Are you so bereft of wit that you now resort to babbling Lewis Carrollesque nonsense? Word to the wise, if you start seeing a time obsessed white rabbit, don't follow it down any holes.

Have you any evidence of the gullibility of seals compared with say any other pinnipeds. Just because they vote labour doesn't mean they are all gullible.............actually that is a fair point you make.

Just for you   cos' your special
