Is it my imagination or is porridge becoming more and more fashionable? Suddenly it seems to be on the menus of all the trendy cafes. You can have it with fruit, cream and even whisky. They're selling it in the supermarkets with berries and syrup swirls and last night I saw an advert for posh porridge on the television.

The wee sachets are handy but I really like Quakers Large Flake Oats. I prefer it made with water and salt added.

Sometimes I have one of the sachets made with milk and add manuka honey, greek yoghurt and some mixed nuts. That's lovely.

Either way it's a great breakfast.

I've never really been a fan of porridge, but have been trying to eat it regularly recently, as part of a healthier diet and hopefully losing a bit of weight. We have been soaking 50g of oats overnight with 125ml of fruit juice, we started off with apple (saw the idea online) and have expanded a bit into cranberry, and apple and blackcurrant. We also tried a limited edition Morrisons juice of apple, rhubarb and ginger. Leave it in the fridge overnight then give it a minute in the microwave in the morning. Added extras are a wee bit of cinnamon, and some sultanas. It's actually pretty tasty! It still goes that wallpaper paste texture that I'm not keen on as it cools, but it's not so bad as it tastes fruity! :)

Last year my cholesterol was showing a tad high. I have diabetes so that is important. I started on a regime which included daily porridge and I admit it was the "instant, add boiling water to this cardboard cup" type but hey, my cholesterol is now back to within the range required.

I guess none of you like muesli then? Fruit at breakfast time is GOOD! Helps keep you fuller longer so you're less likely to snack.

I met have a spot of kiwi on it but then there's a temptation to add cream.

Anyway today is definitely a porridge day and I've still to have breakfast. I know it's nearly noon but I went back to bed with a coffee and my back (text book) - well a novel actually. Makes since this studying Creative Writing. :)

It is definately a porridge day Pat. I like some nutbeg sprinkled on it if i am having it made with milk. When made with water then just salt.

I've got some in the wee packets that you add water to, or milk, and microwave. Now why do I feel like a real cook and think you're just lazy, tig.

The pot things have never appealed to me. I've never tasted a pot noodle.
