Old fashioned Tories, Mail and Telegraph readers throughout the nation are celebrating the victory of pub landlady and business woman Karen Murphy over some foreign owned monopolistic entities. The Jolly old Judges in Luxembourg decided

A system of licences for the broadcasting of football matches which grants
broadcasters territorial exclusivity on a Member State basis and which prohibits
television viewers from watching the broadcasts with a decoder card in other
Member States is contrary to EU law

and they favoured the English Premier in its endeavours to maintain its reputation as being the best league in the world by recognising

The screening in a pub of football-match broadcasts containing protected works requires the
authorisation of the author of those works

I'll suggest they use the PPL/PRS collectors who normally collect the music levies from bars to rake in the license fees from pubs.

mean while Beer and Jazz loving Ken Clarke is being celebrated by Tories from the shires and the touns for being right about Europe and absolutely right about Theresa May. Pimms all round.

The case has been going on for sometime. I think there were a few cheers from The Guardian way back.

"Faced with the rising cost of BSkyB's sports feed – £7,200 a year to pubs, which are already struggling against cheap supermarket booze and other constraints – Murphy used an imported decoder from Greece to provide Premier League matches at a cost of £800 a year."

If she has that option open to her would it not be mad not to make the choice?

I raised my cup of tea to her when I saw on the News that she had won.
This is me since yistirday.

It will be interesting to see how SKY (who pay oodles for exclusivity) and the EPL will handle this. Interesting thought Dex that the EPL could collect a share of PRS monies. More worryingly for football doun souf of course is that many clubs operate levels of debt that can only be sustained via huge bundles of cash coming from SKY. I suspect there may be a few club's chairmen and women spent a worrying night last night with a calculator.
The reasonable expectations of honest men must be protected.

I meant collect their copyright fees for showing the matches in the style of PRS.
