went to see the 1946 film "gilda" at the g.f.t. starring rita hayworth and glen ford which is having three showings.the cinema was packed, with queues to see the next showing, and this film noir certainly delivered, 60 odd years after its first release.hayworth is just so beautifull in this, her speaking voice is lovely, although her singing voice was dubbed, and her acting hits the spot.glen ford is great as the love interest, and there is ultimately a happy ending.rumour had it that she and ford started an affair during filming which became a lifelong friendship lasting til hayworhs sad death from alzheimers.
she was very unlucky in the marriage and boyfriends stakes and famously said of herself that her husbands "went to bed with gilda, and wakened up with me".

You certainly appreciate a bit of glamour, Willie.
Those old films with their Hollywood Stars are marvellous. Not too many these days can live up to the Hayworth and Ford combination. Or can you name some likely candidates?

i cant think of any current stars that can match up to the hayworth style.glamour seems to be out of fashion these days, and most stars seem to dress down on and off screen..except perhaps joan collins or sophia loren.but they are from another movie era too.special effects seem to have replaced style.previously you couldnt wait to see the styles your favourite stars were wearing in their latest movies, now its the special effects that draws the audiences in.

You're referring to an era when stars' images were carefully guarded and even the paparazzi shots were pre approved and taken after a shift of make up artists had done their work, Whilst you might have gone to see what Fay Wray may or or may not have been wearing I think most were there for the ape and the other special effects of King Kong.

I loved Lauren Bacall oozed style and celebrity right up till her death as an old woman.
I see your point, Dex, and it's hard to look like a star when the paparazzi catch you with your curlers in, but all the props and preparation in the world can't provide a certain star quality.

I think that Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig match up to any Hollywood Stars who were seen in the past as a couple, off stage or on.

betty bacall is very much still with us.i went to see her in the concert hall a few years ago where she was doing"an evening with".she was elegant and as sharp as a tack.the interviewer hadnt done his homework, and she certainly wasnt taking any prisoners.
she did a book signing afterwards, and was extremely gracious, and you are right,a true star in the old hollywood manner,

Yes, Katherine Hepburn was fantastic, harper. Smouldering.
Another era, but I was very impressed by Kathleen Turner when she appeared at Aye Write a couple of years back. What a presence and very entertaining. She's certainly weathered better than her co-star Michael Douglas, although, he's been pretty unwell.
His father Kirk was another cracker and his wife, Catherine Zeta Jones, is rather stunning.

Kirk Douglas was impressive, Pat, but you're no gonnae forget John Wayne ha! ha!. How did he ever get in tow with Maureen O'Hara?
