Link between poverty and the ageing process

Recommended Posts

Scientists in Glasgow have developed a new test of the ageing process whereby DNA The ageing process can be measured by studying chromosomes

It is important because it could provide faster feedback on public health measures.

"Until now, evidence of health improvement has involved waiting a generation or more to measure how many people become ill."

Looks like there is a link between poverty and the ageing process.

"The Glasgow researchers found that, over a 10-year period, telomeres shortened by an average of 7.7% in people whose household income was below £25,000. For those on higher incomes, the shortening averaged 0.6%."

I think this socio-economic knowledge has been around for a very long time. Will this proof force the government to increase pensions?

With the new hikes in fuel charges there's going to be a lot more hardship.

Um, no. Or possibly, but on the same day we see pigs flying over Parliament.

But not hardship for the powerful.

Too too true, Hamsterbert. I agree with Pat (and you)not really telling us anything we don't already know and won't make a damn bit of difference.

What is the pint in money going into this type of research. Is there a purpose? Who will it make any difference to?

The point of much research is to prove that more research needs to be done and that the people who did the original research are clearly the best people to carry out that research.
