Tickets for the Olympics went on sale today. Well, some of them, about 30,000 - 40,000 have had to be held back because Danny Boyle has not quite finalised the content of the ceremony.

Apparently there are other reasons preventing all of the potential seats being made available: "unknown demand from international dignitaries and seat-kill issues in relation to television camera placements".

Maybe there will be a special chime on the clock.

I doubt we will be heading south but will be looking forward to watching it on the television.

The games can be very inspirational for young people so I hope that schoolchildren get opportunities to go along to events.

I don't think I'll be going to the games. It would be too costly and some of the things I would be interested in would be over in a flash. I don't want to be out a fortune for the 100 metres.

Personally, I this kind of provactive action just draws trouble. If the Games are that much of a risk that people will be having missiles positioned on their properities then it wants cancelling! I am totally outraged by the whole thing!

Their view is that: "having a 24/7 Armed Forces and police presence will improve your local security and will not make you a target for terrorists...'

I don't know how you gauge the level of security required, harper, but this does seem pretty astonishing. And scary!!

i understand they need security but im sure putting military instillations in civilian areas is against the Geneva wotsit.

think what it would be like to live in a house with a missile base on the roof?....i dont think theyl become any more a target but the disruption will be horrendous with loads of squadies and police everywhere, checking your id every 10 mins so you can get into your own home.

plus with all the other temp "laws" theyre putting into place i think it will be quite a horrific place to live for the 6 weeks.

Very strange. I thought that the whole idea would have to be secretive about your defences. Hope they're not decoys. The approach seems beyond the absurd.

The torch arrives in Scotland today.

Hampden will not look impressive if it is empty. The tickets are probably too expensive. They would be better to cut the price and even let juniors in free and make more of an atmosphere.

I thought it was tomorrow the torch came to Scotland. Maybe that is when it comes to Glasgow.

Olympic Torch at Kelvingrove.

Quite a crowd turned out to welcome the torch. There was also a signifiant police presence complete with helicopter.

Even more surprising was the outriders were all Metropolitan Police...not Strathclyde's finest!
