To Catch a Thief - GFT
Sunday 23 January (13.15)
Cary Grant is a retired jewel thief, alarmed that a devious crook appears to be copying his style. Grace Kelly joins in the fun to discover whether he's telling the truth and if he still has what it takes to impress. Witty banter, glamorous locations on the Riviera and Oscar-nominated fashions from the legendary Edith Head make this lightweight romp the epitome of chic escapism.
This screening marks the start of the Monte Carlo Classic Rally - one of the world's most glamorous car races - which is due to set off from Glasgow on Thursday 27 January. Up to 100 participating cars will leave from the Blythswood Hotel at 5.30pm in front of a welcome crowd of onlookers.

On January 30th Director Peter Mullan will be taking part in a Q&A session following the screening of the film.
Glasgow West End girl Marianna Palka has a small part in it.
She won awards at both Sundance and Edinburgh for her film 'Poor Dick'
This is her mammy: http://www.glasgowwe...ople/basia.html
I love Basia's poem:
I am beginning to doubt the existence of
Human beings, for they seem to me
Not altogether there, whereas for angels
I can safely say that they are either there
Or not there
Everyday angels
Walk Byres Road
With Wings
Folded up
Angels have no need of lips
For they kiss with their fingertips

It's on now, Mr H. I think it will be popular. I gave it a wee nod on Post 16.
Of course you did, I only looked back as far as the date of the première . . . . and asked harper of course

I watched Red Road the other night on DVD. Again, a great movie but terribly bleak.

Know what you mean, harper. It took me six months to recover from My Name is Joe. (:I looked at the clip. No exactly a joyous night out...

I'm not always up for 'bleak' movies.

The performance of newcomer Conor McCarron is truly something to behold, he is a natural talent & is totaly believable in the lead role. Peter Mullan's turn as the drunken bully of a father is also superb & equaly believable. The are also some moments of sublime comedy, mainly from well kent actor Gary Lewis's sarcastic schoolteacher & Christopher Wallace's portrayal of 'Wee T'
I'd recommend this this film without hesitation & the music is fabulous too btw.

Caught Black Swan last week. Interesting film, good performances, although Nat Portman's initial fragility and angst goes on a bit, IMV. Fascinating look into the world of ballet. Good, dark psychological drama.
7/10
Good month for movies. The Cohen Brothers remake of Tru Grit and Rowan Joffe's remake of Brighton Rock.

I didn't fancy Black Swan, harper. I saw the trailer about half a dozen times - probably once too often. Brighton Rock looks great and loads of super films, and events, coming up at the Glasgow Film Festival.
Liked your review of Neds, h.h.
