I hear that the Pakistani Cafe has closed. What a shame. It was super - that particular location seems to be jinxed.

Baby Grand Group's tenure supposedly ends sometime in August. After the good money thrown after bad at it I don't see them reopening as anything before then.

Probably not. I expect Roy Beers will have the lowdown.

In the meantime further up Byres Road The Chip is offering a new lazy summer afternoon attraction: "The Jazz Lunch".

"The Jazz Lunch will be happening on Saturday 30th July (and hopefully the last Saturday of each month thereafter) from 1pm-4pm at the Ubiquitous Chip. A live jazz band will be playing classic numbers in the courtyard restaurant whilst customers kick back and relax. A specially created a la carte menu will allow guests to drop in for a light lunch or wile away the afternoon eating and drinking to their heart's content."
This is me since yistirday.

He was certainly told though he may not remember.

This is probably more worrying than any of Mr McAneney's problems at Dumbarton Rd.

No, he remembers. He's already told me but I've forgotten the details.

Nothing to worry about - you either go or you don't. I suspect it will be very popular.

Depends on the quality of the music and the cost. The Chip is usually pretty on the ball regarding the food, although, not always the most generous of portions. Are Jazz fans greedy?

Okay, I'm all for a bit of artistic licence but we are a tad lacking in jazz, folks. :P

Soudns like a brilliant idea as long as it ins't lounge jazz. I cannae abide lounge jazz and so many places seem to go in for it.

Went along to meet my girlfriends at La Vallee Blanche tonight. Lovely food and pleasant atmosphere. We had a nice cosy corner table at the window. It was great to see the place so busy - the staff were run off their feet but the service was superb.

Aye, there's nothing like a view of Waitrose car park to give you an appetite.

 Not the best, G12 bloke, but nice and bright sitting at a window and we had a lot to gab about as first outing since the holidays so mainly looking at each other.

I don't know that there are many Glasgow restaurants with a decent view? Although, I quite like the wee seat in Stravaigin2 that looks out over the lane.

I doubt any of them are a patch on Harvey Nicks - the night view of Edinburgh is stunning.

In another city, I had lunch at the Tate Modern after seeing the world's most expensive painting, Picasso's Green Leaves, Nude and Bust. http://en.wikipedia....Leaves_and_Bust

Ok, not exactly local but if you hit town it has great food and fabulous views over the Thames to of St Pauls, The place was houching with tourists.. Jumped a water bus to Embankment and saw Tessa Jowel rushing for the tube, yacking on her mobile. See me, see cosmopolitan. :P

That sounds like a super day out, harper. I love those water buses along the Thames.
One of these good days I'm going back to the Transport Museum to take Ryan on the ferry across to Govan.

I like the view of the Clyde from the cafe in the Museum:

Lots of lowdown in Roy Beers' Dining and Drinking. All the latest on pubs and restaurants in Glasgow's West End. Including the possibility of a new Botanics Hotel at the BBC building on Queen Margaret Drive, some awards for Colin Beattie, could we be Curry Capital again and some difficulties between the City Council and some saucy dancers.

Fantastic piece of reportage and what a job. Tell Roy if he ever needs an assistant to give me a shout, although I might have to pass on sampling rook.

The Dram looks amazing and definately a big improvement on the previous, unpronouncable, establishment.

I like the idea of a new hotel in the area. The Grosvenor used to be really good for home visits until the Hilton group took it over. It's bland and characterless and the only good thing is the location. I suppose it's handy for weddings at Oran Mor but something new and special in the area would be cool. B)

 I don't know if I could have hacked that either, harper. Roy is certainly dedicated to his job and not a lot he doesn't know about the dining and drinking business.

It will be interesting to see what happens at the BBC building in Queen Margaret Drive.

The Uisge Beatha (now The Dram) was very popular with some so not too sure if the clientele have hung around but I had a wee peep in the other day and it looks pretty nice.

[I had lunch with Roy Beers yesterday in The Butchershop Bar and Grill, at the bottom of Kelvin Way. Probably the best food I've tasted for a quite some time. Absolutely delicious crab starter then I opted for a baby beefburger. Even the chips were wonderful. Mr Beers was an equally enthusiastic diner.

I walked home all the way up Hyndland Street and through Hyndland then down Great Western Road. Part preparation for a serious hike today up to Loch Humphrey in the Kilpatricks. That has got to be the longest and steepest bray anywhere. I've had a long soak in the tub and off to bed but I fear I may not be too sprightly tomorrow.

I've heard other positive reports about theis restaurant, Pat, but I've got to say that they made a bad choice of a name.

Going by the photographs you posted on another thread I don't think that was a bray you climbed.

I had a Afternoon Tea in Cup in Byres Road. I enjoyed it a lot and it made me feel like a lady and that doesn't happen too often. :)

I haven't had Afternoon Tea for a while, Canny Lass. I'll have to seek out someone suitably ladylike to share.

We had some very nice fare yesterday when we went for a run up to Glencoe. The soup at The Glencoe Hotel was delicious. I have seafood chowder and Jim and Sabine (a friend over on holiday from Germany) had the herby tomato. Served with warm and fresh bread rolls. We followed with tea and shortbread. We ordered a second pot and because they forgot to bring it for a while we didn't get charged for that.

We just needed a wee snack but the menu looked pretty good. We would definitely return.

Seafood chowder in Glencoe. Something fairly odd about that combination, Pat.

Although I am no lady taking Afternoon Tea.
