I am terrified of looking gaunt at my age,so at present I'm about two stones away from that look with the help of all of the above in your email plus afternoon teas.Remember we have to die of something, but not til I've had a little more lasagne,
Willie.

How do you feel about people with common sense? You can wear yourself out getting overly upset about personal prejudices. Canny Lass, I'm looking forward to your answer to Willie's question: "lets talk about you. What do you think about me?".
If you can fit it in with the topic of 'Cafe Culture in Glasgow' so much the better.
I hope he won't be asking for signs saying "Only beautiful people enter here." Could become confusing - after all opinions on beauty are subjective.

When I'm doing my cafe socialising I admit to people watching, willie, if I see a 'slim, gorgeous, dapper man' (I'm assuming in his 70s or thereabouts) I'll try no tae gie him a dunt. It might no be you.
I too have standards. I tend to go for companions who are amusing, generous, interesting and who don't irritate me by airing superficial, judgmental and narrow minded views.
I prefer if they are less cantakerous than I am and caste positive vibes my way, soothing my spirits and encouraging positive thoughts. You and I may have something in common as I like Cup and agree that the man who owns this particular cafe is a charmer. I couldn't put away the very generous afternoon tea by myself. I'm not suggesting that you are a wee bitty greedy?

I do hope Miss Canny doesnt misconstrue my reference to wedding cake, its just that I love it.Preferably royal icing, underlayered by marzipan yielding to a sponge filled with brandy soaked raisins.mmmmmmmmmmmmm.I always love a wedding invite but only for the cake, you can keep the bride and groom and all that stuff, and I cant wait for the little box of more cake dropping through the door a week later as a momento.Heaven is a three tier afternoon tea, with a wedding cake on the side..certainly a rarity in Byres Road.Let me know of any tea shops doing it,

Does that still happen? I can't remember receiving one of those for along time, Willie.
I haven't seen wedding cake on the menu anywhere either. It's basically just a rich fruit cake with marzipan and royal icing. I'm sure you could rustle one up.

Fancy cup cakes have been offered at the most recent weddings that I have been at. We sent out slices of wedding cake after our wedding 20+ years ago. This tradition has stopped, I think. The "show of presents" where you entertained the aunties, in laws and others now seems to be defunct too.Does that still happen? I can't remember receiving one of those for along time, Willie.

the sound of cupcakes fairly resonates with me,with all that delicous butter icing and sprinkles etc.etc.sadly i am now in that age group where its mainly funerals that i get invites to,and it all seems to be savouries at these..no slight on the deceased of course, but a wee sweetness could conjure up many a happy memory for me far easier than a gristly wee sausage roll wrapped in pastry that's guarenteed to give you heartburn for a week.shows of presents?..those were the days with all those rows of duplicated toasters and tea pots etc,now its all wedding lists at john lewis if you please, with nothing left to your imagination as to what to buy.oh,incidentally,my aunty peggy worked in a glasgow confectionary factory as a "chocolate enrober".her job was to drop a covering splodge of melted chocolate onto the little cream fondant shapes as they made their way along the conveyor belt.she worked there for years and it was always great to visit her as she always had bags of choc.mis-shapes from the factory.of course she had no teeth and weighed 18 stones due to bringing her work home with her,
