Hi folks,saw some great pics on here of Byres Rd in the 80's,but does anyone have any of the old Garden centre that used to be in Great George St ?I used to work there.

Lol I hope so I was there for 14 years in total,although there was another guy who worked there on n off from when in opened around 84/85 a think till he became a priest lol

old Garden centre

Heck, I remember when it was a snooker hall. Played quite a few games in there. Shows how old I'm getting when folk are talking about the 'old garden centre'.

It's no that old ;)

Probably gone about 5 years ago or so? Used to be just a kinda yard-type operation then they built the indoor bit wi the decking and wee shop?

Big loss as Westtie says. Many's the plant still flourishing in the Tomassi postage-stamp size 'garden' that was bought from there. And Christmas trees every year till all of a sudden it became a 'development' site wi mad feckoff stupidly expensive flats.

Also recall when it was a snooker hall made of wid, YB. That was before Ashton became a lifestyle thang, only the Chip and the Culdy were there at the time, I think?

If anyone has a copy of The Hillhead Album my car (a Ford Classic would you believe?) is parked outside said premises in one of the pictures. Circa 1964 I think.
