The Acrade is still thriving, In fact I was in 'Sloans' the other day, reputed to be the oldest surviving 'Coach House' in Glasgow. Have you been there?
Funnily enough so was I...on Saturday night

Is it older than the Saracen Head Inn...circa 1755?

Haven't heard of that one, Oz, but Sloans is very interesting.
Ah, Goldbergs. I think you needed some sort of card to shop there. I was in the shop a few times with different friends. It was huge and something a bit odd about it.
They took money too pat

BREMNER'S
Another department store. This one was located on Glassford Street on the east side between Argyle Street and Wilson Street. On entering the shop you headed for the metal wire enclosed lift where you were greeted by the lift operator requesting "which floor please?". There was always a musty damp smell, just like the subway, on entering the lift. The lift was a "Rolls Royce" of its time giving a smooth ride to your floor. The lift driver stated "first floor - bla bla", "second floor - bla bla". However, reality existed on the third floor, toys. Right turn out the lift and down a stair to the toy department where you were greeted by a massive train layout. Behind the wooden topped counters were piled high bright red Tri-ang Hornby boxes inviting the spending of your hard earned pocket money. (Information provided by Bill Watson).

Wylie Hills Still around & the argylle arcade??
Bought Engagenent ring in Hendersons jewellers in it.
Wylie Hills is long gone, I'm afraid. Henderson the Jewellers still there, Oz
Sloans I love, aye did, and wis there for lunch only last week. Probably one of the best-preserved Victorian bars in Glasgow; all wood panelling, comfy booths, original cornicing, and best of all in the upstairs restaurant, fan-bliddy-tastic carved glass panels.

No disrespect to Nota bu he wouldn't have a clue;-). It was on Ingran Street where the casino is now, across from the side entrance to M+S. My mum used to drag me in every week. Good thread this Rolo. I remember Daly's, Trerons, Arnotts and Simpsons, Lewis's, Goldbergs. Can anyone tell me if Fraser's was ever called by another name?Recall the name, can't recall the location. Where wis it then, Nota?
