Hi folks,

I'm thinking about booking a table at Cail Bruich, the restaurant on Gt. Western Road at the top of Byres Rd. Just wanting to know if anyone has been yet and what they thought of it.

Cheers!

The cured Scottish salmon with horseradish crème fraiche came with a moreish savoury muffin, all artfully presented on a square slate slab. The roasted beetroot and goats’ cheese salad with hazelnuts was incontestably light and fresh. The steamed ox cheek pudding resembled a bijou, shiny ashet pie, but its rich, dark contents were more directors’ box than football terrace. It sat on a bed of wild mushroom and green lentil gravy, which managed to out-perform the delicious pudding itself.

My companion opted for the pan-seared salmon with samphire, hollandaise sauce and parsley oil. The salmon was perfect, though we struggled to distinguish the parsley from the samphire — whichever it was, the effect was subtle but enjoyable.

My green ginger poached pear with hazelnut ice cream and dark chocolate sauce was a firm and fresh finale and my friend enjoyed her lemon sorbet — more good restaurants should offer uncomplicated desserts for the militantly slender.

What a load of pretentious pish. Imagine no bein' able to distinguish the parsley fae the samphire!
It's the end of the world as we know it.

Hi to Clarsey,
The cail bruich, yes i have eaten many times at this restaurant and their other down in bridge of weir,
I have had loads off the menu and have never had a bad meal. food is always amazing and value for money.. if you like steak, well you need to try that.. with regards to the the Ox cheek pudding, many people may not know what ox cheek is, but go and try it! it melts in your mouth and is full of flavour!
so in answer to your question, the Cail Bruich is a fantastic little gem in the west end.
so get your booking in,.. you will enjoy it.
cheers

Why ? Is it not really a cut of meat from the cheek ( from the face) of an ox ? And yes I have tasted samphire, salty kail/green bean type veg.iirc.

Ahem, do I smell the whiff of viral marketing on this here thread? Shirley no!

Oddly enough, I noticed this new place for the first time an hour ago coming along Gt Western. It's where the Parthenon used to be. Well not THE Parthenon, but youse'll know what I mean.

What's Cail Bruich Gaelic for then? It's all Greek to me...
