Tthe tenements were demolished. If you look at the view below, you will see the lane & the church behind a second row of tenements, the row in between is long gone.

Brilliant stuff, HH.
I like Gibson Street best. Also entrance to Ashton Lane looks so different.

If you get a chance take a walk round Westbank Quadrant and see if you can get a look at the GOW Triangle Project.
Tremendous refurbishment of the backcourt.
This is me since yistirday.

Pat, what is the GOW Triangle Project.

"GOW is the collective acronym for the Gibson Street, Otago Street and Westbank Quadrant 'triangle community', so called, because the streets join to form a triangular backcourt. The group provides a fantastic example of what can be achieved when Glasgow West End residents put their heads together to transform an ugly and neglected backcourt into an attractive area they can be proud of."

Indeed. In HH's first pic of Byres Rd, the b&w one, the motor that is just coming onto Byres Road is turning outside Tennent's.

Jings, auld photies. Addictive.

Had a project of 24 of these to do today, unfortunately numerous pints of Riegler got in the way. Anyway here are the ones I did manage. All positive correctional comments welcome as it's very difficult to capture some 'Past / Presents' with the changes in street numbers / demolition of buildings etc.

Salon Cinema (1960's ?)
Posted Image

One of Glasgow's longest running cinemas, the Hillhead Picture Salon was designed by Brand & Lithgow and opened by the Hillhead Picture House Co in 1913. An orchestra added to the atmosphere. A refurbishment in 1931 maintained the high standard of interior furnishings.
314 Byres Rd, 1931
By the 1960s the Salon relied on a loyal but dwindling band of local customers and the cinema continued to struggle for its existence after new owners Fyfe and Fyfe refurbished it in 1970. In
1987 it was acquired by Caledonian Associated Cinemas, owners of the nearby Grosvenor Cinema, and the Salon was finally closed in 1992.

The Western Baths 1994:
Posted Image

The entrance to the Western Baths Club in Cranworth Street, Hillhead, 1994. The symbol on the wall to the left of the doorway is an ARP sign for emergency water supply for fire fighting, dating from the Second World War.Designed by local architects Clarke & Bell, the Western Baths Club building was completed in 1881 with a fashionable Turkish bath as its showpiece. Early financial troubles resulting in liquidation were overcome when the club re-opened in 1886. Over the years, the Western Baths Amateur Swimming Club has been very successful, with many championship winning performances from both men and women members.

In the 21st century, the club remains open to members who are required to pay an annual subscription. Its facilities include a swimming pool, gymnasium, social area, steam room, hot room, tepidarium, cold water plunge pool, Turkish bath and sauna. Naturist sessions are organised by the independent Scottish Outdoor Club.

You are right, H, if I'm reading Ozzy's post correctly. Having said that, the VM is notoriously full of errors.
