Songs to Greet to.

Recommended Posts

Songs to greet to, hmmm?

If I knew you were comin' I'd've baked a cake, baked a cake, baked a cake

If I knew you were comin' I'd've baked a cake

Howdya do, howdya do, howdya do?

Had you dropped me a letter, I'd a-hired a band, grandest band in the land

Had you dropped me a letter, I'd a-hired a band

And spread the welcome mat for you

This always tugged at my heart strings:

Baez and Dylan, 1976: Deportee.

A wee bit fast for my taste. I reckon the Arlo Guthrie/ Emmylou Harris tempo suits the (Woody Guthrie?) lyrics better. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQbOScHfxhQ

I doubt there's an online version but Rutherglen's Ian Bruce sang the best version I ever heard at the old Star Club in Carlton Place in the late 70's.

Yip, exceedingly moving, Onny.

I may well have seen Ian Bruce as those were the years I frequented the Star Club - student days.

Really? Of all of us on here I didn't take you for someone who'd have a Special Branch file.

Ian Bruce

HH, issis you going frae the ridiculous tae the sublime:

Furst ye regale the entire board with a thread aboot peeing and noo this excellant introduction tae hitherto unheard of very talented singers and ithurs have highlighted enough memory awakeners tae keep me listening for half the night.

The thread is entitled "songs tae greet tae" and no a mention of "Teddy Bear" ten four guid buddy.

The Dionne Warwick, "thats what friends are for" brings up a question; is that not from a TV special that she did, many years ago ? Looks like Dianhnn Carroll with her and am thinking that wis aboot the time that Dianhnn's husband died or mibee they divorced.

and am surprised that naebody posted a K.T. Oslin song. Ay jist stopped in for a minute and am stuck here for the last hour.
