I used to rush home from school in the early 60s on a hot summers day, straight into the kitchen, turn on the tap and let the water run till it was really cold, get a glass from the cupboard, prise open the lid of the creamola foam tin with the back of the spoon, put a generous heaped spoon of the bright orange crystals into the glass, top to the brim with water, and drink in one go,leaving oneself slightly breathless. One had the added benefit of the orange dye sticking all round your mouth for ages and still very flavourfull an hour later. What was it made from?Probably best not to know,

Yikes, that was horrible stuff, Willie. When we were wee it was popular but my mum never bought it. All we got was milk, milk and more milk. Except when we had a special treat when the ice cream van came and we had ice drinks. American Cream Soda or Irn Bru were the popular drink choices. One of our weans was telling us recently that she had an Ice Drink in Colpi's in Clyebank. Fabulous ice cream but the ice drink was made with Coke. I don't fancy that somehow.

Summer holidays in Donegal drinking Football Specials - effectively Irish Irn Bru but with a heading agent that made your fizzy pop look like a beer.
You'll have tried Pink Lemonade as well.
Along with Tayto Crisps.

I've got a terrible yen to take a trip to Donegal. Once I let my cousins know I am heading their way they check to ask what kind of scone bread I would like on arrival - I usually opt for Indian Meal.
