Burns Night at Downing Street

Recommended Posts

You wonder what was the idea behind the celebration of the Bard at Downing Street.  I doubt he would have approved.

Alas! have I often said to myself, what are all the boasted advantages which my country reaps from a certain Union, that can counterbalance the annihilation of her Independence, and even her very name." Rabbie Burns, letter of 10th April 1790.

There was an interesting guest list – complete with spelling errors. 'The Scottish Whisky Association' –could have been worse I suppose – they could have switched the Scotch to British.  Here's the link to guest list: https://twitter.com/nickeardleybbc/status/955533585867558913/photo/1
