Grenfell

The buildings and the regulations need to be changed. The problems seem to be effecting buildings throughout England. It is a wonder there have not been more terrible disasters.

Camden seem to be more worried than other councils. There's a lot of disruption due to residents being asked to leave their homes. Not really surprising that some of them don't want to leave. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/chalcot-estate-resident-confronts-camden-council-leader-georgia-gould-grenfell-tower-cladding-a7807731.html

Now the big mess is getting compensation to Grenfell victims. The government money has to be claimed for, after the initial £500. It seems that so far only four people have applied.  Somebody should be appointed to oversee all the vast charitable contributions.  A bit of structure is required. Don't know what the role of the Charities Commission is but it looks like a shambles.

See people from Grenfell turning down offers of housing. How can you ask those who've lost everything to move their kids to new schools and start again in unfamiliar area. Hard to think of anything good coming out of the disaster but social housing seems to be back in focus.

Council has very limited housing stock in the area. Not quite sure where 140 unoccupied local homes would come from.   Lots of infrastructure on the ground and grants foundation in place - but that's not newsworthy.  Council has simplified grants application to one side of A4 and is turning funding applications around in two days - but that's not newsworthy. Some families’ want to stay close to the community, others are asking to be rehoused as far away as possible - but that's not newsworthy.  Most of the families evacuated from Grenfell Tower are too traumatised to move at present. Prioritiy is being given to support the children over the summer moths when the schols are closed. Specialist support services have been set up but that's not newsworthy either. Very little of what I have seen reported resembles what is actually happening on the ground and it has been like that from day 1.

The Herald (what has happened to this newspaper) runs with banner headlines 'Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow built with the same panels used in Grenfell Tower' absolute clickbait designed to stoke fear.

What the headline did not tell you is that the panels used on QE Hospital are safe (Kingspan brand) whereas Grenfell Tower had both Kingspan and Celotex brand the latter are the unsafe panels.
