Hope Nicola Sturgeon's drive to create wider access and more equality with more students entering uni from poorer backgrounds.
Theresa May's got a different approach and seems to be moving back the way. She's got Nicky Morgan up in arms.

Don't like the meritocracy idea – particularly when you're talking about youngsters. The eleven plus – or qualifying as we knew it – wrote off a lot of children as failures.

I see there's another new policy from Westminster whereby special visa restrictions will be lifted for graduates from Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College and Bath Uni.  Possibly yet another reason for an outcry from Scotland – where there is a much greater need to increase the population and retain graduates than any of these locations.

Tory education policy is a complete shambles, only three months ago they wanted every school to become an academy, that's been abandoned for this latest sepia tinted wistful yearning for a past where everyone knew their place.

I don't know why they don't just look at the schools that are succeeding in improving opportunities for all pupils – despite barriers – and replicate what they are doing.
