Jess's Jaunt: What's On: Theatre

Gilmorehill G12 performance studio, Glasgow 24-27 February 2010, 7.30pm.

About the show: This is the place where art meets ad, where sound and image combine, where beauty is fleeting. It is the garbage heap of all culture, repugnant as it is alluring. But when the beat stops and the icons fade, what remains?

The Gilding Room is a performance responding to the music video as both cultural icon and corruptive influence, driven by an original score and guided by a single performer. Beginning by stripping the music video back to its most basic components (recorded sound, recorded image), the performance is a visual and aural experience which retraces the joy and tragedy of watching, desire and idolatry.

The Gilding Room is the first work by Glasgow based performance company, Playathome, whose aim is to make devised theatre grounded in research which engages critically with its subject. By bringing together artists from different disciplines, Playathome endeavours to create work which is visually arresting as well as to emphasise "event" and "experience" over narrative. Ultimately, this young company strives to use image, text and sound in innovative ways to create flexible and contemporary theatre.

Faeries is returning to Gilmorehill Theatre in December 2004 after its sell out success in March. Join the magic and book your tickets early.

The musical show Faeries, which was shown @ Gilmorehill theatre on Sat 27th March was superb. The performers were fanatastic and very funny. They did their self proud. I await more shows like that.
