Glasgow River Festival 2008

Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th of July - 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

This year's programm looks set to be even more varied and exciting with events and activities for all ages. Highlights will include:

  • Jet Sport Ski Racing
  • Glasgow's first ever beach volleyball tournament
  • The River Clyde will welcome an impressive fleet of visiting ships, which you can visit including: the Loth Lorien schooner, two Royal Navy Hunt class minesweepers and the Jacinta, a Fleetwood trawler, which now acts as a floating museum of deep sea fisherie
  • You can also visit Entry onto The Tall Ship at Glasgow Harbour - free of charge.
  • The ever-popular 'Vital Spoark' puffer will return to the Clyde plus 'Spartan' - the last Clyde-built Puffer.
  • Seaforce - The Power Boat, the training school, will offer short rides and Zapcat will be available for taster sessions.
  • You can also opt for a more leisurely experience with a trip on 'Clyde Marine Cruises
  • Or you may fancy sponsoring a duck in this year's 'Great Glasgow Duck Race'

On Land

Photo: Absailing from Finnieston Crane.Bring the family and spend a day wandering around the Riverside and sampling the Summer Barbecue, visit the Farmer's Market and catch some of the entertainment on offer.

BBC Scotland's marquee will be bursting with activity, with a host of well known faces joining in the fun. Visitors will get the chance to read the news alongside Reporting Scotland presenters and try their hand at football commentating. CBBC's Raven (James MacKenzie) and Nina (Katrina Bryan) from the popular Cbeebies Nina and the Neurons series will also be making an appearance across the weekend.

The Glasgow Science Centre, located in the area, will offer a mix of educational and fun withwith crowd-pleasing science demonstrations as well as less conventional belly dancing performances and a display from rugby stars, the Glasgow Warriors. Adrenalin lovers will enjoy a dramatic abseiling demonstration from the Royal Marines, while the young-at-heart can visit a number of funfairs throughout the festival area.

Getting to the River Festival

Getting to and from the festival has never been easier with a free bus service provided by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT). The buses will transport festival goers from key locations in Glasgow City Centre to the SECC and Glasgow Science Centre, with additional buses running from Greenock, Hamilton and Kilmarnock
