Birds Eye View presents a programme of inspiration and celebration at Glasgow Film Theatre from May 1-14 2008, showcasing the best from women filmmakers across the globe, with highlights from our recent London festival.
Award-winning feature, documentaries and shorts
Following a successful launch in February as part of the Glasgow Film Festival, Birds Eye View returns with a programme of award winning features and documentaries featuring stellar talent from Germany, Japan, the US and India. Scottish premieres include Hotel Very Welcome with a hilarious performance from comedy actor Chris O'Dowd, BEV 2008's closing night film and winner of their Best Newcomer award; and 2007 Cannes Critics Week closing film Expired, starring the brilliant Samantha Morton.
Glasgow audiences will also be treated to the stunning Japanese pop-spectacle Sakuran - the feature debut of celebrated photographer Mika Ninagawa, and there's the opportunity to sample some truly inspirational life-changing docs from Afghanistan, India and Bolivia. The season also includes eclectic and entertaining shorts selections, with a chance to see the sell out Birds Eye View 2008 opening night shorts, premiered at the BFI, London.
Scottish Talent Showcase - Saturday 3 May, 12-4pm
A highlight of the season will be a special Scottish Talent Showcase aimed at encouraging, inspiring and connecting local talent. Featuring a remarkable selection of the potted history of Scottish Women filmmakers curated by Glasgow short film night The Magic Lantern, as well as a top-notch panel of women in the Scottish film industry, this is a fantastic opportunity for aspiring filmmakers to network and meet the experts.
