The Argyll Hotel is just the sort of place you would like to know was waiting for you to relax after a day out in Glasgow, whether you've shopped till you dropped or have been out lapping up the culture that the city has to offer. However, there can be little doubt that much of the success that they enjoy can be accounted for by the approach of the professional team, who run the hotel under Alice Gilmore's inspired and experienced eye. I was fascinated to hear that she actually travelled to meet the regiment and consult with them when she had the idea of calling the restaurant 'Sutherland's'. Thus apart from making choices from such traditional fare as 'Cock-a-Leekie Soup', 'Baked Loch Fyne Kipper', 'Poach Fillet of Tay Salmon with west coast prawn and dill cream sauce', or 'Grilled Islay Langousitnes with West Coast Clams and Mussels' - when dining in the restaurant you can also learn a bit about the history of the 'Argylls'.
The hotel is situated in a very convenient spot on Glasgow's famous Sauchiehall Street near Kelvingrove, handy for Glasgow's West End, with its many cultural attractions, including the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, the nearby Kelvin Hall Sports Arena, Glasgow University and The Hunterian Museum and Art Galleries plus restaurants, pubs, cafes and shops galore. It is conveniently located nearby the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre. The centre of Glasgow is only a step away - with all the attractions of a modern, vibrant city including great theatres, clubs, conferences, sporting events and world class shopping.
They have been particularly enterprising with regard to taking the stress out of organising short breaks.
