First Fridays – The Hidden Lane Monthly Open Studio Evening

1103 Argyle Street,
Glasgow, G3 8ND

Friday 1st February, 2013

There is a wide variety of Scottish small businesses tucked away in Finnieston producing artisanal artwork and stylish, often bespoke creations of real beauty. Pete Gillies joined by Michelle Campbell and Andy Peutherer are artists within the Hidden Lane creative community who have taken it upon themselves to promote the Lane. They decided to put together a monthly open studio showcasing talent working in the Lane. The idea was to give the public the opportunity to meet the makers in their work spaces and see the work produced, buy work direct and commission one-off pieces.

Tradition dictates that these happen on the first Friday of the month so they started ‘First Fridays’. This December (2012) sees the Hidden Lane’s sixth and largest event so far with plans to grow further and add elements each month.

There will also be additional open studio events throughout the month announced through social media.

With such a spectrum of craftspeople involved, and such a relaxed atmosphere, finding a unique Christmas gift becomes a pleasure.
The studios taking part so far are:

Michelle Campbell
Under The Kitchen Sink
Shona Fidgett
Peter Gillies Stained Glass & Art
Finch & Fouracre
Glasgow Badges
Pink Grapefruit
Euan McWhirter
Chouchou

The event can be followed on Facebook

Some of the studios operate an open door policy, opening hours vary but most artists work late into the evening.

All artwork/furniture/jewellery/crafts can be viewed in studio, and commissions are welcome.

Regular visitors include gallery owners, interior design companies and offices looking to buy something for their walls, as well as many residents in the area, tourists who spot the sign, or visitors to the wonderful Hidden Lane Tearoom.
