Val Guest’s 1961 lo-fi yarn tells how, due to a horrifying coincidence where USA and Russia perform nuclear tests at the same time, the earth is knocked out of orbit and begins to hurtle towards the sun. The action plays out as a newspaper scoop, unfolding in the real offices of The Daily Express on Fleet Street where heroically gruff reporter Peter Stenning (Edward Judd) breaks the story whilst slowly romancing telephonist Jeanie (Janet Munro).
Presented as part of BFI’s national Sci Fi: Days of Fear and Wonder season.
12 Rose Street, Glasgow, G3 6RB.
