Naomi Kawase is a master of serene, spiritual dramas in which earthly troubles are contrasted with the healing powers of the natural world. Still the Water is set on the tropical Japanese island of Amami where 16-year-old Kyôko (Jun Yoshinaga) is falling in love with the boy next door, Kaito (Nijirô Murakami). However, when a body is washed up on shore, a link with the dead man forces Kaito to re-examine his relationship with his parents; a move which creates an emotional impasse between himself and Kyôko.
