Singing in Graveyards
Glasgow Film Festival
19 and 23 February, 2017
At 68, Pepe has given his life to impersonating Filipino rock legend Joey ‘Pepe’ Smith, and now finds himself alone and penniless, living on the borders of reality. When the real Pepe Smith decides to mount a comeback show, he enlists his impersonator to both open for him and write him a love song – something neither of them has done before. Played by the real-life Pepe Smith (a huge star in the Philippines) with a mixture of sad obsession and acceptance of his own fame, the fictional Pepe Smith is a mesmerising central character in Bradley Liew’s moving debut feature.
