Police hunt racist thug

A 30-year-old Asian man was racially abused and violently assaulted in an unprovoked attack near Anniesland Cross on Tuesday.

The victim, understood to be a refugee, was walking with his sister close to BJ's Bar and Diner when a man approached him, made racial remarks to him and head-butted him.

The suspect then became involved in an altercation with several other people before making off.

He is described as age between 20 to 26 years of age, with short brown hair, clean shaven, and was wearing a dark jacket, blue denims and a dark cap. Officers are urging anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward, and are reviewing CCTV images in a bid to trace the culprit.

Chief Inspector Fraser Lamb said: "This was a totally random attack, and it's not clear why the suspect approached the man.

"It is not acceptable for people to think they can go around verbally or physically abusing other people and it's imperative we trace the man responsible.

"I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time to please get in touch with us - you may have vital information which could help us trace the suspect." Anyone with information is asked to contact Drumchapel Police Office on 0141 532 3600.
