Busy, busy - recording and gigs

Photo: jim byrne. Been busy, busy busy lately. Juggling too many things if I'm honest.

I'm recording an EP with Robert and Lawrence of the band The Creeping Charlies; which I have to say is sounding great and has got me excited. This is very much a collaborative projects with songs co-written by myself, my wife Pat, Robert, Lawrence and Geoff Martyn.

We've just finished the recording of the first song; though from past experience the word 'finished' is probably me being too optimistic; Lawrence is now talking about putting strings on it.

I'm also re-recording an old song of mine called Tenderness with Glasgow Singer songwriter Dinny. it's a song I've always loved and Dinny sings it beautifully. The last time we performed it - which was at the Troon festival Dinny had a member of the audience crying when she sang it - the beauty of her performance was too much for the man. I'm hoping I can capture a bit of that magic on the new recording; which has a very different arrangement from the original.

I've also got two other new songs that I'm trying to get recorded. One is a song written with Pat for friends we stayed with in Canada a couple of years ago; it's a bit of fun and recounts our adventures at the time.

The other is a song written a while back but which I'm only now getting around to recording. The plan is have Pauline Alexander sing it; as Pauline has a great voice and will more than do it justice. Malcolm McDonald ex of many great bands, including The Primevals is playing sublime slide guitar on the track. It sounds like a hit to me - but then they all do to my ears. :-)

Gigs Been a bit quiet on the live front lately - so looking forward to playing in front of an audience again.
