Callous robbery of elderly woman

Police are appealing for witnesses after an 89-year-old woman was robbed in the West End's St George's Road on Sunday 17 (June 17).

The victim was approached at around 7pm by a young woman who struck up a conversation.

She then stole the pensioner's handbag which contained a small amount of money and paperwork. The elderly woman didn't need hospital treatment, but was left badly shaken.

The suspect, who ran off north towards Garscube Road, is described as: white, 20-30 years old, slim, and between 5ft 1ins and 5 ft 5ins. She had dark hair pulled back and was wearing a brown or black belted jacket, light jeans and light trainers, and was carrying a handbag.

Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area.

Constable Katy Allan from City Centre Police Office said: "This was a terrifying and cowardly attack on a vulnerable, elderly woman. She's been left very upset by her ordeal."
