Second hand and Vintage Clothing

Added on Monday 7 Feb 2011

After Sunday's Say No To Plastic Vintage Sale a number of people have contacted me with regards to good places to find affordable second hand and vintage clothing.

The great thing to remember about buying second hand or vintage is that you are extending the life of an existing garment, rather than buying something new, from say Primark or New Look, which may be cheap but extremely disposable. Let's cut the amount of clothing that goes to landfill sites!

Some recommended places to buy Vintage Guru (/www.vintageguru.co.uk) my number one destination in the West End of Glasgow. Great for men and women.

Same goes for Armstrongs (www.armstrongsvintage.co.uk ) in Edinburgh and, of course, remember branches of Oxfam and Barnardos across the country have a great selection of pieces that you will love for their uniqueness and affordable prices.

Vintage is great as no one else will be wearing what you are. Kate Moss is currently donning a vintage diamond engagement ring.

William Vintage (www.williamvintage.com ) in London is an internationally renowned destination for for haute couture pieces for every size, shape and budget. A special by appointment service. He supplied Grace Woodward, the X Factor stylist with pieces, 2 of which Rebecca has worn at a film premiere and also in the semi final of the show.

If you require something really special for an occassion and after investing in a stunning Ossie Clarke number from him, I can assure you, it will continue to stand the test of time, will enable you to receive a ridiculous amount of compliments and its something to pass onto your children.

Think of vintage as an investment. I bought a stunning 50's swiss lace dress from Vintage Guru and it's incredible.

For men, women and children, vintage and second hand is a great way of saving money and the environment.

Love It Again( www.loveitagain.co.uk) on Hyndland Street is a great destination for second hand children's wear.

So, save a penny and the environment by buying second hand clothing. Just beware dry cleaning conditions!!
