It's unassuming name and functional exterior do not prepare you for the extraordinary experience it has to offer with three vast floors of furniture, prints, lighting and home accessories to suit every room in the house. No matter what your taste, type of abode or which look you feel inspired to create; your trip to The Store is certain to be a success.

Situated in Anniesland, just off Great Western Road, this wonderful shop is easily located and many loyal customers visit from far and wide. It's no suprise that '99% of people who shop there come back' and Alan Milligan, the very amiable and experienced manager, puts this down to two things. Firstly, the incredible choice on offer with many ranges directly imported and exclusive to The Store and Secondly, 'because of the way we do things'.

Photo: Room layout. They have definitely achieved both of these objectives, not only is the range of products amazing but customer care has been honed to a fine art.

Alan explains that:

Customers are seen more as guests, who are made welcome and encouraged to feel relaxed. There is no hard sell, however, staff are readily available to offer advice and answer any questions. They will even sit down with you and discuss your requirements over a cup of coffee.

Altogether a browse around The Store is a very pleasant experience. There is an amazing variety of styles - you will find fragile and ornate bedroom suites or you may go for something substantial and sleek. There are lovely stylish leather sofas, comfortable club chairs, beautiful oak, walnut and mahogany tables, reclaimed pine and also their own exclusive range of furniture.

Photo: Checker board. The displays are thoughtful; giving you an idea as to how particular styles might look in your own home - everywhere you look there is something that catches your eye. I particularly loved their beautiful range of Harrison Walnut furniture and the Norway dining table, with its neat mechanism that allows extension at the flick of a wrist.

On the top floor I found the most fabulous French Oak sideboard - perfect for those large Westend dining/kitchens. The Lauren range of bedroom furniture is also very appealing - sumptuous and unusual.

Throughout the shop there is an extensive array of beautiful lamps from sleek and cool neutrals to flamboyant chandeliers. There is also a fantastic range of very affordable mirrors of all shapes and sizes plus vases, bowls and assorted gifts for all ohave ccasions.

These include: landscape art by Jolomo, Hamish MacDonald, Glen Scouller, Francis Boag, Pam Carter and George Birrell and comtemporory art by Simon Laurie and Gordon Mitchell. You can also find some very special prints from the Colourist, Samuel Peploe, including the Black Bottle and the Silver Coffee Pot. One or two carefully chosen pieces of art could be just what you need to add that finishing touch to a lovely room.

Furthermore, a huge and well stocked warehouse means that many items are available for immediate delivery. Whether you are planning a total makeover for your home or looking for a special gift you just can't get along to The Store too soon.

I especially love the tic tac toe on the table next to the lamp. Look like the store has some great stuff, a lot of character but still modern. Not like Ikea which is very modern but the furniture has no character at all. Next time I go to Scotland I shall be visiting :)
