The Coach House Trust Shop can be easily spotted by the enormous wood carving of a hand standing tall outside the doorway. The shop is very unique with its fascinating selection of hand carved wooden furniture and refurbished antique pieces. Also on sale are a selection of mirrors, clocks, mosaics and paintings; all are created by volunteers at The Coach House Trust Project, just round the corner in Belmont Lane. The aim ot The Trust is to:

"challenge the economic and social exclusion of adults who are recovering from problems associated with mental health, addiction and learning difficulties"

The Project has already crfeated quite an impact in the area, and is a favourite on 'Open Doors Day' with its fascinating workshops and landscape gardening enterprises a major attraction.

The shop makes an excellent showcase for the work undertaken by volunteers in carving, polishing and in the restoration of beautiful furniture. All carried out under the careful eye of Phil Benson.

Photo: Wooden Chair. The Coach House Trust Shop is an attractive addition to the ever growing range of Interior Design and Furniture Shops operating in the East Hillhead/Kelvinbridge Area. It is a pleasant place to browse in with every piece unique and prices very affordable. Or if you have a commission in mind you can discuss your ideas.

Volunteers from the Project assist in the running of the shop and Arthur McGough, a well kent West End character, manages the establishment. He is 100% committed to the principle of 'social firms'and all profits made from sales at the shop will go back to the Coach House Trust Fund supporting their work in urban ecology, recycling and the promotion of craft skills in "combating isolation and intolerance with innovation".

Photo: Coachhouse Trust.Over the past few years Arthur has made a considerable contribution to the West End Community and was previously manager of the Annex in Partick, where he was held in great affection and esteem. Sheila Reid (Partick Playwrite) even dedicated a poem to him - Ar'fur So welcome to East Hillhead, Arthur, Billy and all the Coach House Volunteers and good luck to The Coach House Trust Shop.

I've never walked past a piece of property that looked like that. It looks as if the whole shop has been designed by different people for different sections, and all the furniture and randomly donated by people. Cool concept!

I thought the gardens and the sculptures were beautiful and really interesting. I saw it on STV on the news. Could you please email me with any information on the open days as I would really like to visit the gardens. Yours sincerely Michelle Gapinski
