Handbags and Gladrags is a main attraction for all fans of retro, vintage and bargain shopping. Maxine, an expert in the second-hand clothes trade, has pushed out the boat in sourcing a wonderful assortment of romantic vintage, fun retro items, girl glam, second hand designer gear and an astonishing amount of amazing bargains.

If you like to create your own unique style then you will be spoiled for choice - you can take your pick from row upon row of skirts, trousers, denims, coats, jackets and dresses. Styles reminiscent of the 60s and 70s are particularly popular.

Watch out for some fabulous designer labels like Paul Costelloe, Aquascutum , Burberry and Miss Sixty - plus all the quality high street brands: Warehouse, Top Shop, Miss Selfridge, Kookai, Zara, New Look, Per Una and River Island - the list goes on and on. I even spotted some Biba!

The selection of accessories is extraordinary there are evening bags galore, leather shoulder bags and one off's that will make you stand out in the crowd. There are vintage shoes fit for your display cabinet or if you like to totter in five inch wedges or 60's style white black leather boots you could find just what you are after.

There are scarves of every hue and clothes for all seasons - even if you are planning a holiday somewhere hot in the middle of a Scottish winter - you can pick up a nifty little sundress at Handbags and Gladrags. There are also cosy coats, fun furs, knitted cardis, tailored blouses in every hue and slinky evening attire.

The area at the back of the shop is rather special and that is where the real retro gems can be found but Maxine's really has something for everyone - plus sizes and stuff for the gents too.

There's a selection of beads, bangles and brooches. Sequinned basques and evening attire. It's not just for the youngsters either and discerning ladies can pick up Merino jumpers, Cashmere cardis and tailored suits at ridiculously low prices.

Handbags and Gladrags is one shop that I can truly say that I have never, ever, left empty handed. Much of their custom is through word of mouth and many of my friends have gone along to investigate after admiring some of my fabulous finds.

Right next to Kelvinhall Underground and on Dumbarton Road main bus route it's very handy - even if you're just in town for the day.
