Darkly comic, ROAD by Jim Cartwright is the brutal and gritty portrayal of working class life in a Lancashire town.  It is 1987, Maggie Thatcher has just gained her third term in office as Prime Minister, there are 3 million unemployed, massive pit closures, privatisation, depression, alcoholism and despair.  Scullery becomes our drunken tour guide who takes us on a surreal and sometimes uncomfortable tour of a row of terrace houses where all the inhabitants are desperately trying to find a personal escape from their squalid existence.
