February – June 2015

The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland today reveals an ambitious new season of work from Feb – Jun 15, showcasing more than 500 performances across ballet, drama, music, musical theatre, opera and contemporary performance.
With 42,000 tickets sold across five venues each year, the RCS continues to underpin Glasgow’s vibrant arts scene, working with partners from national companies, alumni and esteemed professionals.

Highlights of the new season include the annual graduation performance from our gifted Modern Ballet students; Musical Theatre present a beautiful reimagined production of the classic musical West Side Story; After the success of Into the New 2015, Contemporary Performance artists present an original choreographic performance Waiting for the Sun to Rise; Masters in Classical and Contemporary Text students back from their residency at Shakespeare’s Globe take on two great Jacobean plays, King Lear and Edward II; the Opera department completes its operatic/Shakespearean Merry Wives/Falstaff ‘trilogy’ with Vaughan Williams’ colourful Sir John in Love, and On the Verge returns to The Arches to present a provocative festival of diverse new work from some of the country’s most stimulating voices in theatre.
As ever, the Music school offer a generous roster of performances spanning classical, jazz, Scottish music, orchestras, ensembles and Masterclasses led by experts in their field. The ever-popular Monday and Friday at 1 concerts continue with performances from talented RCS students and internationally regarded artists, alongside an exciting new introductory series of Sunday morning chamber music Coffee Concerts, featuring guest musicians from the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

Principal, Jeff Sharkey, has said of the new season:
“At the RCS I can truly say that we have something for everyone; our students’ talent, energy and enthusiasm is infectious. Their performances will bring you to new worlds and unlock thoughts, emotions and experiences that will be uplifting, thought-provoking and always professional.”
