glsgow wood recycling.jpgThanks to an award of £426,509 from the BIG Lottery Fund, Glasgow Wood Recycling is about to launch “Making Wood Work” its first training and employment project providing opportunities for 144 people, the first of its kind in Scotland.

Delivering training designed and accredited by the National Community Wood Recycling network this award will help unemployed people learn woodworking skills, and learn about wood recycling and health and safety.

The new project will mean three new posts being created immediately and a wide range of partnerships being developed with local employers to improve the employment prospects of trainees.

Peter Lavelle, Chief Executive and Founder of Glasgow Wood Recycling said:

“The award is fantastic news and will mean we are able to provide a much higher degree of support to people trying to learn new skills and secure paid employment. We know from our experience that people really want to learn and to combine this learning with some recognition and accreditation. This award will make this much more of a reality for the many people we can now support. We can now look forward to working with a wide range of individuals and employers and making an even greater social impact in our community”.

Big Lottery Fund, Scotland Chair, Maureen McGinn, said:

“Our Investing in Communities programme aims to bring real and lasting improvements to people and communities most in need.  We are delighted to have awarded £426,509 to the Glasgow Wood Recycling Project for its new project in Scotland. This will provide both hands on training and also employment opportunities. This social enterprise is able to draw on significant experience in helping people into employment, and this award will enable the group to bring a proven model to Scotland for the first time.”

Glasgow Wood Recycling is a social enterprise and charity est. in 2007. It provides volunteering opportunities and makes garden and other furniture from reclaimed wood.
