Jim and I went along to the annual fashion show by students from the full time fashion design, fashion technology and fashion textiles’ courses at Cardonald College part of West End Festival, 2012. The event took place at Glasgow’s wonderful Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, which provided a perfect setting for showcasing the students’ creations.
We were amazed by the vast number of spectacular outfits displayed by the young models, who included many of the students from the course. They looked stunning and members of audience were in raptures as design after design was paraded before us. They ranged from stark, sharp monochrome styles and to the flirty and floaty, colourful casual wear and quirky outfits for those who dare.
However, the highlight of the show was when more formal evening wear and wedding dresses were displayed. Suddenly it was like being transported to a cat walk in Paris or New York as wonderful ivory and white dresses in glorious fabrics such as silk, satin and organza floated in front of us. Whether fans of the fairy tale or elegant, any brides to be in the audience will surely be hammering at the doors of Cardonald College to commission a very unique wedding dress for their special day.
Anyone interested in commissioning a wedding dress to be designed should contact Susan Deans who is the senior lecturer for the HND Fashion Technology programme.
Cardonald is one of Scotland’s leading fashion colleges and entry onto their fashion design courses are highly competetive . The reputation of the college is well established and courses are taught by very talented and experienced leturers thus they attract the creme de la creme of students. The cumulation of their learning at Cardonald was certainly very much in evidence at Kelvingrove. The event was a huge success and little wonder that everyone was wreathed in smiles as the thank you’s were announced and flowers presented.
I can’t wait for next year, when the event will be bigger and even better. Once again it will take place at Kelvingrove and there are plans for a free daytime show – open to all and a gala event at night with refreshments and entertainment as well as the fashion show.
