Rab Noakes

Songwriter/Performer Rab Noakes and Harmonica Virtuoso Fraser Speirs have known one another for 50 years or so.

They didn’t officially work together until 1989 when Rab was producing the music for John Byrne’s TV series ‘Your cheatin’ heart’.

Fraser played some marvellous country-bluesy harp on a number of songs on the soundtrack.

A while later, still in the 20th Century, the pair played a Blues Night at Glasgow Jazz Festival.

The repertoire that night was a feast of blues, pop-blues and some Rab songs. The collaboration was a success and they mounted a series of shows together, some with Rab’s band The Varaflames.

Fraser was on both Varaflames albums and there was also a duo record ‘lights back on’, released on Neon Records in 2000.

These days they play together less regularly which gives this event a special rarity value.

The repertoire will, as before, be custom-made to suit a Bluesy night.

Come and see, and hear, two of Scotland’s best-loved, long-serving roots musicians in an intimate surrounding.
